DJ Vlad joins Nick Cannons mornings to discuss his new podcast, being a pivotal part of the culture, always being pro-black, some of his favorite interviews, the best advice he’s ever received, and more.
With everything being so race-driven, DJ Vlad talked about being white but always having respect for the black culture. When asked if he feels pressure being a white person but covering black culture, the former DJ said, “I’ve always been pro equal rights, I’ve always been pro-black, we have to be mindful about the type of interviews we do… we turn down a lot of interviews because we feel now is not the right time to release certain types of conversations.” He continues, “We always try to balance it you know, for every gangster that we interview, we’ll have like a Nick Cannon. We’ve always done a balancing act, but our job is to curate and document the culture of this era, and that’s the good and the bad.”
Vlad also said, “I’ve always said I was a guest in Hip Hop. I feel very lucky to be in this artform, I don’t feel like I deserve my place here, I feel like I’ve tried to earn my place and I feel lucky that I wake up every morning and I get to do Hip Hop related interviews for a living and put out hip hop related content. I feel that it’s a lot of responsibility with the millions of subscribers on YouTube alone, we have a very loud voice and you have to be responsible and you also have to give the audience what they want at the same time.
