Over the recent years, the hip hop community has finally become more diversified. Rappers like Young Thug who has worn a dress on his album cover and Lil Nas X who came out as gay last year have really taken a step forward.
Now, Swae Lee is blurring the gender line in fashion with his new collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti. The collection includes three different pairs of heeled boots.
When asked about why he chose to design outside the norm for rappers, he explained how many artists these days are afraid to be different.
“A lot of [rappers] are fucking scared to wear shit,” he said. “They want to think the old ways and put a limit on that shit. I’m not scared to be different.”
He continued to describe his purpose for the collection. “I was making something to go on someone’s body, to complete their outfit, the shoe completes a look, it was up to me to make the most key part of the outfit, so it was way different. Now I’m helping people with their well-being. This is their image. That’s important.”
