According to Vanity Fair, her performance was, “thematically centered on homecoming weekend as celebrated at historically black colleges and universities, and on highlighting black Greek culture.” The Beyhive leader even launched a merchandise line “Homecoming” after her compelling show as well, and also started a “Homecoming Scholars Award Program,” to award a $25,000 scholarship to four lucky students.
The incredible Coachella performance was imperative to the music festival’s history of line-ups, for Yoncé was the first black woman to EVER headline the annual music festival.
“Thank you, Coachella, for allowing me to be the first black woman to headline,” she stated in front of her live audience. “Ain’t that ‘bout a bitch?”
