As Travis Scott waits to see if his newly delivered third studio album Astroworld will dethrone Drake’s five-week Scorpion reign, the Houston-bred rapper has just dropped of his visual treatment for ‘Stop Trying To Be God.”
Captured by famed-director Dave Meyers and La Flame himself, the nearly 5 minute visual takes on several biblical references. Scott leads his following through a burning city, eventually performing baptisms. With a God-like being looking over the city that becomes engulfed in flames, the Kid Cudi, James Blake, Philip Bailey, and Stevie Wonder-featured track narrates the birth of new life by the visual’s end.
The clip also features a guest appearance from Scott’s girlfriend Kylie Jenner who takes on the role of the biblical Virgin Mary, while Scott also portrays several biblical characters.
On the track Travis sings:
Stop tryna be God Almighty
Fuck the money, never leave your people behind, yeah
It’s never love, no matter what you try
Still can see it comin’ down your eyes
‘Cause they did not create commandments (ooh-ooh)
When you hustle, always make it fancy (ooh-ooh)
The signal’s far from what you can be (ooh-ooh)
‘Cause air traffic controls the landing, yeah yeah yeah yeah
