The Marathon Book Club—Founded In Memory Of Nipsey Hussle, Is Inspiring Black Men Across The Nation

A group of black men in Los Angeles gather every month to discuss reading material revered by the rapper.

According to the Los Angeles Times, after Nipsey Hussle’s passing, Rashad Drakeford, founded The Marathon Book club; a place where black men can meet to discuss some of Hussle’s favorite books.

Now there are four different chapters across the country. 74 black men, and two latinos meet up monthly in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Oakland and New York.

This all started after one fan, Twitter user @theSIMSITY, began compiling a list over several years, of all of the books that she heard Hussle mentioned in interviews, songs and his motivational talks. The list includes everything from cult classics, to business, self-help and little known black authors. Take a peep at the original meme and her updated list below:
