#MissUSA 2019 is… NORTH CAROLINA! Welcome to the sisterhood, @CheslieKryst. 👑 #RenoTahoe
Both Kryst and Garris of the USA pageants were praised throughout their competitions for choosing to wear their natural curls, instead of opting to straighten like many black contestants have been persuaded to do in the past in order to look more “elegant” or “polished”.
Garris said in an interview after her win that she’s excited to inspire other girls to embrace their natural hair and love themselves just the way they are. “Being able to spread the message of diversity, being yourself, and being confident in your curly, natural hair is something that I’m really looking forward to with my new national title. Take a look at the three beautiful QUEENS below and try not to get blinded by all the #BlackGirlMagic and #BlackExcellence, congrats ladies!
