Picture this: It’s 2021, your friend or family member has been wrongfully jailed and you’re looking to turn over their conviction. You’re told an amazing new public defender is taking their case, *BOOM* the door opens and its Kim Kardashian!!!
This fantasy could become a reality. Kim graced the cover of this month’s Vogue, her first solo US Vogue cover; and she revealed her plans to take the bar exam in 2022! In her interview the mother of three discussed her work with prison reform and why she wants to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue law.
KKW says she’s been working closely with CNN commentator Van Jones for months, visiting prisons, petitioning governors and attending meetings at the White House. The craziest part is, this is nothing new. She’s been enrolled in an apprenticeship program at law firm in San Francisco for almost a year!
Kim told Vogue “I had to think long and hard about this,” of her decision to transition into a new career path. “The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, s***. I need to know more. I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case. It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”
