The busy stretch between the 134 Freeway between Glendale CA-2 and the Pasadena 210 Freeway just received a new sign! The freeway now says “Barack H. Obama Highway!”
Caltrans crews have installed new signs for the nation’s 44th president. Obama lived in Pasadena during his sophomore year attending Occidental College from 1979-1981.
State Senator Anthony J. Portantino, who co-authored the bill for the freeway’s renaming, commented on Obama’s time at Occidental saying, “His time influenced his political trajectory and lead him to become one of the most revered and respected Presidents in history.”
“Our community came together to make this happen,” Portantino said. “It is an honor to be in a position to have helped facilitate this wonderful symbol of our collective respect for the grace and dignity embodied by our 44th President.”
He continues “Our community came together to make this happen,” Portantino states. “It is an honor to be in a position to have helped facilitate this wonderful symbol of our collective respect for the grace and dignity embodied by our 44th President.”
The state senator introduced the plan in 2016 and pushed for it, as a reminder of the accomplishments of our important leaders.
Many funds were donated to Caltrans for the creation and installation of the signs.
The freeway is the second road structure in Los Angeles to be named after former President, Obama. Just earlier this year, Los Angeles City Council voted to rename Rodeo Road in Culver City to Obama Boulevard.
Obama is definitely loved in Los Angeles!
